Existential Risks
Some risks are more important than others. According to Gerry C. Meyers, former CEO of American Motors Corporation, and author of When It Hits the Fan: Managing the Nine Crises of Business, there are nine threats that all businesses could face:
- Public Perception (How do I look?)
- Sudden Market Shift (Which way did they go?)
- Product Failure (Redesign it or retire it?)
- Leadership Succession (What happened at the top?)
- Cash Crisis (Frequent and lethal.)
- Hostile Takeover (Circle the wagons.)
- Industrial Relations (Labor's love lost.)
- Adverse International Events (Foreseeable but uncontrollable.)
- Regulation and Deregulation (The consummate mess.)
